Liverpool could perhaps have revealed a blow to their Carabao Cup final ambitions before kick-off after three key figures were noticeably absent from the pre-match walk at Wembley.

The Reds are in action this afternoon against Chelsea as they look to keep their unlikely quadruple bid alive with Carabao Cup success, with Liverpool favorites heading into the tie.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side still in the race for the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League, the German could end this summer with a bang when he leaves Anfield.

They face a Blues team that has struggled for consistency under Mauricio Pochettino; His first term in charge is not going to plan so far, but success at Wembley could be a big boost for his future at Stamford Bridge.

And Pochettino will have been watching with eagle eyes as Liverpool came out to survey the pitch with three key figures missing from the party.

Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai were all absent on Sunday morning as Klopp and company ventured onto the Wembley turf.

The Reds have been hit by an injury crisis in the run-up to the big show at the home of football, with around 10 first-team players sidelined.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Alisson, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are also suffering from physical problems.

The Blues and Reds will meet for the Carabao Cup on Sunday but are boosted by Andy Robertson’s return to fitness.

The star left-back has won every possible trophy under Klopp and will surely be a key component in his side’s attempts to bring another four trophies to Anfield this season.

“I’ve timed it right,” he told Mail Sport, after getting injured playing for Scotland against Spain in October. “It was my first operation in football and I hope it will be my last. I want to make up for lost time.

“Liverpool’s injury crisis is there, but I’m lucky to be back. I don’t know any footballer who is a good patient but I had to respect the injury and the experts doing my rehabilitation.

“I never got too far ahead. “I just tried to improve from one Monday to the next.”
