Keaton Jennings struck Galle for more than six hours with determined determination in Galle, did not finish, and had carefully maneuvered his team to a winning position in Sri Lanka on day three of the first test.
The lead-off batter was assisted by Ben Stokes, who scored half a century, and handy thirties from Jos Buttler and Ben Foakes when England won 322 for six.
That meant that the hosts had set the unnameable task of trying to score a world record with 462 runs to win.
