A two-year-old child is fighting for life after being run over on a night when he is on the run.
The boy's family realized that he had become homeless in the southwest suburb of Laverton, Melbourne, around 9 p.m. M. Sunday.
They were following him down his busy suburban highway when he was hit by a gray Holden van.
The driver allegedly did not stop after hitting the child.

The neighbors raised the alarm, calling the authorities after witnessing the anguished incident.
The paramedics came quickly to the scene, rushing the child to Royal Children's Hospital in critical condition.
After one night under care, it has improved to a serious but stable condition as of Monday morning.
The gray truck was discovered shortly after, abandoned in the parking lot of a shopping center just down the street.
Shortly after finding the car, police arrested a 21-year-old local man, but no charges were filed.
The neighbors called the authorities, the paramedics arrived on the scene in a matter of minutes

The neighbors who witnessed the incident told 9 News that it was horrible.
"I just heard screams and sobs," said one resident.
"I saw a small baby on the road, I could not sleep all night," said another.
