Mail Sport football expert and It’s all starting! Podcast host Chris Sutton has revealed why he once slapped David Beckham.

In the latest episode of the podcast, Scottish fans in Germany for Euro 2024 had the chance to ask Sutton a question, with questions ranging from how good Henrik Larsson really was to his favorite topping on a pizza.

Already in the questions, the former striker was asked about slapping the former England captain during a testimonial match between Celtic and Manchester United at Old Trafford, much to the surprise of co-host Ian Ladyman.

Sutton laughed and joked that “it was a long time ago”, before being forced to give an explanation and admit that the event did happen and reveal why.

Ladyman saw the funny side of things and joked that Sutton “must not have washed her hands in weeks”, although Sutton seemed more reluctant to discuss the situation.

Joking that, quite accurately, it was all just starting, Ladyman was left stunned by the explanation of why his co-host laid his hands on the English football icon more than 20 years ago.
