Inside Lisa Wilkinson’s plan to prove Brittany Higgins’ rape happened as her bold legal defense against Bruce Lehrmann’s defamation case is revealed
- Lisa Wilkinson denies accusations made by Bruce Lehrmann in his libel suit
- The Channel 10 star said what she reported was “substantially true.”
- Wilkinson denied that she was recklessly indifferent to the truth
Lisa Wilkinson has filed her defense in the libel suit brought against her by Bruce Lehrmann.
The former Project host will try to ‘prove’ that the former Liberal Party staffer raped ‘an intoxicated Brittany Higgins’ in Parliament House in 2019 when they were colleagues.
Documents released by the Federal Court on Wednesday also outline that Wilkinson denies using the sexual assault allegations against Mr. Lehrmann for personal and professional gain.
Mr Lehrmann has consistently denied raping Ms Higgins and last month filed a defamation suit against Network Ten and News Life Media Pty Ltd in Federal Court.
In a 22-page legal document filed by Mrs. Wilkinson’s attorney, Sue Chrysanthou SC, Wilkinson states that she acted as a responsible journalist.

The TV star who won a Gold Logie for her sit-down interview with Ms Higgins has flatly denied Mr Lehrmann’s claim that she was ‘recklessly indifferent to the truth’ and ‘fought’ with another journalist over the exclusivity of the story.
Mr Lehrmann’s civil suit alleges that Ms Wilkinson fought with news.com.au’s Samantha Maiden for exclusivity.
Wilkinson unequivocally denied this claim, stating that she never spoke to Maiden leading up to the story’s airing.
The defense filed by Wilkinson stated that the allegations against her of recklessness are “unfounded, unjustified, unsupported by any fact and must be withdrawn.”
Daily Mail Australia understands that Mr Lehrmann made a settlement offer to Network 10 and news.com.au, but the outlets rejected the offer and promised to challenge the matters.
