Anti-tourism protests in Mallorca are deterring tourists from visiting the island, a recent survey by a local news website revealed.
a survey conducted by the Mallorca Daily Bulletin found that around 44 per cent of people will think twice before booking a holiday to the popular island following major protests against mass tourism.
Fortunately for the tourism industry, about 55 percent of the more than 650 respondents said they were not deterred by activists, who are calling for more affordable housing and fewer vacation homes.
Businesses are reportedly worried about whether enough tourists will come to the island this summer, and protesters have been warned to “be careful what you wish for” by asking them to stay away.
As the summer holiday season progresses, protesters who have been campaigning against overcrowding are said to be planning more demonstrations.

Lisa recently said she struggled with weight gain and gained three kilos at one point when she was premenopausal while sharing a photo wearing lingerie.
The Palma protest was organized by the Banc del Temps, a group from the town of Sencelles, in the interior of Mallorca, which is outraged by the difficulties locals face in obtaining housing on the island.
After Saturday’s protest, Banc del Temps spokesperson Javier Barbero warned: “This is just the beginning. If measures are not taken, we will continue taking to the streets until we see action.”
There is concern in the tourism industry that the protests are having an impact on its influx.
Although the peak holiday season is still a few weeks away, Majorca Daily Bulletin reports that some resorts are “unusually quiet” for this time of year.
Last week, images emerged of empty beaches in the popular tourist resort of Magaluf, with one bar owner suggesting to protesters: “Your wishes have been granted.”
Other members of the sector would have said that the protesters are “playing with fire” for their rejection of mass tourism, on which the island’s economy largely depends.
Lisa recently said she struggled with weight gain and gained three kilos at one point when she was premenopausal while sharing a photo wearing lingerie.
The model admitted she debated sharing the photo because she was worried it might “cause a strong reaction.”
Taking to her Instagram Story, she thanked fans for their kind messages and said: ‘You know, I’ve really been trying to lose weight these past few years. Well, more than that, four or five years.
“And I’m really proud of all the work I’ve done and my willpower to not drink all the time has really helped me.”
And he added: ‘It’s strange. It’s funny how many followers I lose when I post something like that, which I post for us ladies as inspiration and also because I’m proud and shouldn’t feel bad about it.’
Despite her fears, Lisa received a lot of praise under her original post and was liked by several celebrities, including Hollywood star Jennifer Anniston.
Fans who supported me shared: ‘You are one of many role models for me. We are the same age and lucky to have some amazing women like Tamsin Outhwaite, Davina, Tess and Claudia, Denise etc. all going through perimenopause and still fabulous. Which really isn’t easy when you don’t feel like yourself. Exercise and self-care are key and you look amazing.”

Even though she seemingly oozes all confidence, she candidly opened up to fans about her weight loss struggles that have been going on for five years.
She admitted that she was hesitant to share the photo because she was worried it might “cause a strong reaction,” but that she was proud of her work and wanted to use it as inspiration for others.
Fans, including Friends star Jennifer Aniston, liked the post and sent messages of support and encouragement.
Previously, Lisa had been incredibly open about her weight and health after entering perimenopause at age 44.
The star battled lack of sleep, “anger attacks” and weight gain throughout her battle.
Speaking to The Daily Express in 2022, she said that lack of sleep was the number one problem she faced during menopause and that she found it difficult to maintain her career while extremely tired.
“For me, lack of sleep was what took me to the bottom when I started going through menopause,” Lisa told the publication.
“Some days I just didn’t want to be here.”
