The Detroit Lions are signing former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Adams will sign to Detroit’s practice squad with plans that he will eventually be promoted to the active roster, according to the report. News of the deal comes with the Lions in line for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Detroit is 11-1 following a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Chicago Bears.

Adams, 29, most recently played for the Tennessee Titans after signing as a free agent in the offseason. He played sparingly in three games with the Titans before being released in October.

Adams played seven previous seasons in the NFL with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. Adams was an All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler in three seasons with the Jets as one of the NFL’s best defenders.

The Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks in 2020 in exchange for a package that included two first-round picks. He signed a four-year, $71 million contract with the Seahawks that made him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at the time.

Adams was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro in his first season with the Seahawks, but regressed after that in three injury-plagued seasons in Seattle. He played a combined 22 games in three seasons from 2021-23, and the Seahawks released him in 2024 in a move to save cap space.

The Lions presumably hope Adams can regain some of his former All-Pro form in time to make a difference during the postseason.
