Lionesses World Cup heroics mean Team GB WILL be in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo if USA beat France in Friday night’s quarter-final
If France lose against the United States on Friday night, Team GB will have a women’s team at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The three best-placed teams at the World Cup will qualify, with England’s place going to Team GB.
After Phil Neville’s Lionesses booked their spot in the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Norway – and two of the other three quarter-finals all-European affairs – Team GB will have secured a spot in global showpiece event if hosts France are eliminated.

If France overcome the United States, it would be an all-European final four and England would need to win the third-place play-off as the minimum to secure a spot in Tokyo next summer.
The four home nations’s respective football associations sent written confirmation back in October that they had agreed a women’s team could represent Team GB should one of the three qualification spots be secured by the Lionesses this summer.
There is a growing sense that Neville’s side can go the distance after a devastating demolition of Norway in Le Havre.
Goals from Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze took the game away from the Scandinavian side with France or USA next up in the last four.
While both France and USA represent far tougher opponents than both Cameroon (in the last-16) and Norway (in the quarter-finals), England have momentum and a belief in the group.
