Lionel Richie called King Charles a ‘secret comedian’ as he praised the royal for his ‘incredible sense of humour’.
The 73-year-old legendary singer was among performers who attended King Charles’ coronation last week where he performed his hits Easy and All Night Long.
Days later, King Charles and Queen Camilla joked with Lionel and fellow performer Katy Perry during a surprise appearance on American Idol after the coronation concert.
And talk to Additional TV, the singer opened up about his relationship with the monarch, saying, “He’s got this amazing sense of humor that nobody knows about.” He’s a secret comedian.
Meanwhile, he also added: “I‘I’ve known the King for quite a long time… For him to take the step and get out of the comfort zone – it was actually his comfort zone, he was nagging her… It’s so good for the world of know.’

Speaking to Extra TV, the singer opened up about his relationship with the monarch and said he’s known Charles “for a long time”.
Richie became The Prince’s Trust’s first Global Ambassador in 2019.
During a surprise appearance on American Idol last week, Lionel joined Katy odid livestream from Windsor Castle to speak with host Ryan Seacrest when Charles and Camilla made the unexpected cameo.
“What a party, it was amazing. Now we’re trying to figure out what we can do to bring something different to the show,” Lionel said. ‘So I have a surprise.’
Charles, dressed in a blue suit, and Camilla, dressed in a long blue jacket, then came out and joined them, with a shocked Katy saying, “Oh my God.”
“I just wanted to check how long you’ll be using this room,” King Charles said with a laugh. “I just wanted to check.”
“We have to leave the room right now,” replied a smiling Lionel.
King Charles praised the singers for their performances at the star-studded concert in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
He added: “No thanks for your brilliant performance and thanks to Katy as well.” It really was.
King Charles said it was “great to have you both here”.
“Are we making too much noise?” Katy asked Queen Camilla.
“I understand that there is a party, says Lionel.
“Ah, you’ve heard of it,” said King Charles.
“Well, you’re having a party next door,” Lionel said.

“Ah, that’s right,” said King Charles. ‘If we better take you to the party but you’re busy with all that other stuff.’
“As soon as we’re done, we come to the party,” says Lionel.
“We’re coming to the party,” Katy said.
“Well, you deserve it,” said King Charles. ‘Be blessed.’
“Thank you very much,” Katy said.
“We love you,” Lionel said as King Charles walked away. ‘Congratulations.’
“God bless you,” Katy said.
King Charles and Queen Camilla then departed.
Earlier in the night, Charles and Camilla watched from the royal box as Richie performed his hits Easy and All Night Long.

Zara and Mike Tindall could be seen singing along to the songs, with some swaying from the Duke of Edinburgh. The performance drew huge applause from the King and Queen.
Richie revealed he immediately jumped at the chance to perform at the celebration concert, saying: “It’s an honor because it’s every 80th except for the queen who just made it up. ‘at the end.” But I mean, it’s amazing.
Princess Charlotte, 8, and her mother, Kate, Princess of Wales, then sang as Perry, wearing a gold leaf ball gown, performed her pop hit ‘Roar’.
The event, which was hosted by the BBC and watched by millions around the world, featured a 70-piece orchestra, choirs and several unique dramatic performances.
