Lionel Messi’s father lashes out at critics for his son’s seventh Ballon d’Or win

‘Bla bla bla… on’: Lionel Messi’s dad takes to Instagram to criticize his son’s seventh Ballon d’Or triumph after narrowly beating Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski

  • Lionel Messi beat Robert Lewandowski by 33 points to Monday’s prize
  • Messi won the Copa América with Argentina and the Copa del Rey with Barca
  • But many felt Lewandowski was a worthy winner after his 2021 success

Lionel Messi’s father has criticized critics of his son’s seventh Ballon d’Or title with a post on Instagram.

Messi took an unprecedented seventh title on Monday evening, overshadowing Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski by 33 points.

Voices from around the football world have announced the outcome, claiming that Lewandowski deserved more after his prodigious scoring form over the past two seasons. He scored 23 goals more than Messi in 2021 and won the Bundesliga.

Now Messi’s father Jorge has spoken out, captioning a photo of his son: “Bla bla bla… move on.”

Messi finally won a title on the international stage with Argentina this year – the Copa America – while also winning the Copa del Rey with Barcelona.

It turned out to be his last trophy at the Camp Nou. Barcelona couldn’t afford to renew his contract, so Messi took an emotional farewell before joining French giant PSG.

In his acceptance speech on Monday, Messi paid tribute to Lewandowski – who won the striker of the year – and said he deserved to win the demolished 2020 Ballon d’Or.

“Robert, you deserve your Ballon d’Or,” Messi said. ‘Last year everyone agreed that you were the big winner of this award.

“Hopefully France Football will give you the Ballon d’Or 2020. We all think you deserve it and I hope you can have it.”

Lewandowski was merciful in the defeat, saying on Twitter: “Congratulations Leo Messi.

Congratulations to all nominated players! I have won the Striker of the Year Award and no player can win an individual award without the strongest team and loyal fans behind him. Thank you for your support.’
