  • Lionel Messi had a penalty saved by a goalkeeping robot in Qatar on Wednesday
  • Messi and the Paris Saint-Germain team were visiting the Olympic Museum
  • The 34-year-old striker tried to place that ball in the top right corner of the goal.
  • However, the robot was quick to react and deflected his shot away from the goal.

Lionel Messi has long been praised as one of the best footballers in the world, having won the coveted Ballon d’Or a record seven times.

However, it appears the Paris Saint-Germain striker was no match for a Qatari goalkeeping robot during a press day at the Olympic Museum.

Despite scoring 764 career goals, the Argentina international couldn’t find the back of the net when he faced the moving piece of cardboard on Wednesday night.

Images shared on Aldahi’s Instagram page show Messi, considered by many to be the greatest player in history, facing off against a robot goalkeeper in a penalty shootout.

Messi lined up to take the penalty kick while wearing Paris Saint-Germain stash and big white sneakers.

He approached the ball in his usual way and tried to put it in the top right corner. However, the robot goalie made a sensational save.

Messi appeared laughing at his ruling as the crowd around him fell silent after the penalty kick.

The fans were quick to respond and mock Messi. One social media user wrote: ‘EVEN WITH ROBOT HE STILL CAN’T SCORE.’ Another added: “Why is Ronaldo so much better?”

While one said: ‘CRISTIANO RONALDO IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME, CRISTIANO RONALDO IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME, CRISTIANO RONALDO IS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME’.

However, the 34-year-old appeared to be in Qatar with the Paris Saint-Germain squad for an event at the Qatar Olympic Sports Museum.

Messi was seen signing shirts, posing with the famous face, shaking hands with guests and participating in various activities.
