Lionel Messi had been on his cool since joining Inter Miami, but his genius was still in the spotlight with another goal and a moment that ignited Twitter.
In Charlotte’s 4-0 rout in the League Cup quarter-final, Messi danced past two defenders with great ease, bogging them down to the point of colliding.
Of course, the reaction both inside the DRV PNK stadium and on social media has been stunning.
“Looks like he’s playing with his dog in the backyard smh is (sic) wasting his time in this league,” one X user wrote.
“Playing at 70% capacity and still clowning around MLS defenders,” another tweeted in response to the video.

Messi wasn’t as busy as in previous games but he scored as Inter Miami cruised to a 4-0 win
Messi allowed Josef Martinez to take an early penalty and put the Storks ahead 1-0 against Charlotte.
Robert Taylor added a second in the 32nd minute before Charlotte’s Adilson Malanda netted a 78th-minute own goal from a cross intended for Messi.
The 36-year-old Argentine, who has yet to lose since arriving in South Florida last month, scored Miami’s last goal in the 86th minute.
Miami now moves to Philadelphia after the Union beat La Liga MX’s Queretaro 2-1 on Friday night.
Incredibly, Messi hasn’t played in MLS yet. At this point, his league debut is scheduled for August 26 against the New York Red Bulls.
