Channel nine Mike Dalton was soaked after the beast sprayed him at Zambi Wildlife Retreat in Wallacia, western Sydney on Tuesday.

His guide Donna Wilson, who had led the veteran reporter around the animal shelter, was left very amused.

& # 39; He looks at you as if you are like, I don't know, maybe another rival, & # 39; she said.

& # 39; He makes you smell like him, not like you. & # 39;

Dalton had visited the retreat for a report on retired entertainment animals.

Part of the sanctuary is still under construction and will only be accessible to guests later in the year through invitations or bookings.

Dalton, a behind-the-scenes look, toured the grounds to visit the many exotic animals, including former circus and show business lions.

After getting acquainted with the more tame cougar Koda and tigers Zoran and Mischka, Dalton came across the former circus lion Korvu.

The 15-year-old was in his temporary housing while he waited until his new house was built on the property.

A curious Dalton squatted beside the lion while his tour guide knocked Mrs. Wilson on the relaxed animal through the wired fence.

& # 39; He is very friendly and happy, & # 39; said Wilson.

It wasn't long before the lion turned the back to spray urine at the news reporter.

A well-prepared Mrs. Wilson anticipated the move and was quick enough to lean out of the way.

Although a surprised Dalton jumped up and jumped into the line of fire.

A bewildered Dalton remained staggered, his glasses wet and his jacket soaked.

& # 39; I think I made a friend, & # 39; he joked.
