Lily Allen has admitted she made a big mistake that led her to harbor years of resentment toward her former mentor Elton John.
The Smile singer, 39, managed the music legend, 77, for several years and they became close friends.
However, their working relationship broke down and they separated, and their personal life became “out of control” in the following years.
Lily decided to write to the Rocketman hitmaker at the time, sharing her sadness about the situation and how there was a “big Elton-shaped hole in her life,” as well as being “vulnerable” about her path to sobriety.
But she never received a response from Elton, something for which, she revealed, she “harbored resentment toward him” for years. “Actually, I thought it was mean of him,” she said in her Miss Me? podcast in May.
Years later, Lily moved to the United States and realized she had made a big mistake when she found the letter while unpacking the boxes. Actually, she had never sent it.

Sharing a throwback clip with her best friend and podcast co-host Miquita Oliver on Instagram on Tuesday, Lily said: “I used to be managed by Elton John. He would call me once every two weeks to check on me, say hello and make sure that it was fine.
“And there were some times in that period when it wasn’t right.”
She added: “We split up and I wrote this long letter to say how sad I was about the situation and that there was a big Elton-shaped hole in my life.
‘And over the next few years, when my life started to spiral out of control, I felt a lot of resentment that I had made myself very vulnerable in this letter and told him everything about my sobriety and I was quite angry with him for a few years.’
‘For not answering?’ Miquita asked, to which Lily continued: ‘And I actually thought it was mean of them, and then when I moved here to America, I was unpacking and I found the letter.
‘I never sent it (laughs). Elton, if you’re listening, which you probably aren’t, I love you and I no longer harbor that resentment towards you.’
