After losing their last two games against the MLS All-Stars, Liga MX has finally emerged victorious.

The Liga MX All-Stars took a 4-1 win over the MLS All-Stars in their match at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday night. The victory came after the MLS All-Stars eliminated Mexico on penalty kicks in 2021 and with a 2-1 win in the 2022 edition of the game. Last year’s edition was played against Arsenal.

While it was an exhibition match, the game was a preview of the upcoming Leagues Cup, which will pit MLS clubs against Liga MX teams starting Friday. Inter Miami, thanks to the addition of Lionel Messi, won the cup in 2023 after beating Nashville in the championship match.

The Mexican team didn’t waste much time on Wednesday night. Liga MX took the lead in the 16th minute thanks to Germán Berterame, who scored with a perfect header into the corner of the goal.

About a minute later, MLS responded with a perfect goal from Cucho Hernandez to level the match.

That was it for the MLS side. Liga MX scored again just before halftime with a goal from Oussama Idrissi from outside the box to go into the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

Liga MX opened the scoring in the second half with back-to-back goals from Juan Burnetta and Maximiliano Meza, one minute apart. Liga MX took a 4-1 lead.

MLS has been outscored 9-1 in the last two All-Star Games, following last year’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal.

The League Cup will start on Friday and the group stage will run until August 6. The final match is scheduled for August 25.
