Lidia Thorpe confirms she is the subject of violent online threats allegedly made by a man arrested by the police
Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe has identified herself as the MP who received online threats in a threatening video.
Australian Federal Police charged a 30-year-old Melbourne man last June with using a transport service to threaten, harass or offend after he allegedly threatened an MP in a video.
AFP had opened an investigation into the video in January 2022, after receiving a complaint from an MP about it.
SATURDAY, age revealed that the MP allegedly under threat was Lidia Thorpe.
“The senator will make no further statement on this matter due to ongoing physical impacts resulting from a car accident she was involved in last month,” a spokesperson for her office told the publication.
“The senator is suffering from significant complications as a result of the accident and is undergoing medical treatment.”

Police say the 30-year-old produced and shared a video that “contains threats of violence against a federal deputy.”
Police seized three of his electronic devices during a search of his home in Mernda, northeast Melbourne last June, which allegedly contained evidence of the production of the video.
Commander Stephen Nutt said AFP used sophisticated technology to track down the alleged attacker.
“AFP supports political expression and free speech, but where this leads to criminal behavior – including threats and harassment – it will not be tolerated,” he said.
The Melbourne man will face charges at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on September 20.
He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted.
