Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had left the singer in Argentina to return to the United States just two days before his death.
The singer, 31, died on Wednesday after falling from his room at the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel in Buenos Aires.
On Monday, Kate, 37, shared a video on TikTok revealing she was flying back home to Florida after spending two weeks with Liam in Argentina.
She added that she had originally planned to stay in Argentina for “five days” and was “very ready to go.”
“I thought I had to go home,” he said in the video, which documented his flight back to the United States.

Kate and Liam originally flew to Buenos Aires to see his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on October 4, and he remained in the country after his girlfriend flew home.
Liam’s latest Snapchat post showed him happily posing with bikini-clad partner Kate Cassidy as they looked in the mirror, with the previous photo shared by Kate to mark her 30th birthday last year.
Other posts from the final moments of the star’s life showed him enjoying a late breakfast in his hotel room, where he revealed the couple had “woken up at 1pm every day” and decided on Forrest. Gump as a Halloween costume.
He filmed himself at the breakfast table with Kate, where he joked about his partner leaving his hat on the table.
Another tragic selfie was captioned: “Beautiful day in Argentina” before the star shared a photo from her hotel, writing: “Happy to have had some time off” followed by a heart emoji.
He shared another photo with Kate with the caption: “Quality time.”
TMZ reports that even though Liam and Kate traveled to South America together, she returned home on October 14 and the singer reportedly checked into Casa Sur alone.
Emergency services are believed to be present outside the hotel, where a red tent has been set up on site. Investigations into the singer’s death continue.

Spokesman for the city’s ambulance service, Alberto Crescenti, said he had fallen about 40 meters and suffered “serious injuries that were incompatible with life.”
He said: ‘The alarm was raised at 5:04 pm local time saying that a person was lying in an internal courtyard of Casa Sur.
‘At 5:11 pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead.
‘Later we discovered that he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him.’
Kate and Liam began dating in October 2022 and made their red carpet debut at the Fashion Awards that same year.
However, in May 2023, the couple sparked breakup rumors, with a source telling US Weekly: “Liam and Kate have broken up.”
The couple then put split rumors to rest by enjoying a date night in London in June 2023, and later that year she supported him when he was rushed to hospital with a “serious kidney infection.”
Liam began his quest for stardom when he initially auditioned for the X Factor in 2008.
At just 14, Liam impressed the judges with his own version of Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon, but was later eliminated from the show.
However, Payne gave his singing career another shot by auditioning for the competition again in 2010, where he quickly rose to fame as part of One Direction.
He and his former bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were brought together by Simon Cowell and former judge Nicole Scherzinger, who saw their potential as a group.
After a few weeks of getting to know each other and rehearsing non-stop, the group impressed Simon at their audition for Judge’s Houses and moved on to the live shows.
Pop Svengali later admitted to Rolling Stone that it took him “about a millionth of a second” to spot the group’s global potential.
Fan reaction was also instant, and 1D’s hysteria soon overshadowed the show. Despite the adoration, the band eventually finished third on the X Factor, but soon after Cowell sealed their fate by signing all five to a £2 million Syco contract.

His single Strip That Down co-written with Ed Sheeran rose to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that same year.
