Liam Payne reveals he recently had a ‘very sweet’ phone call with his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles: ‘I’ve got a lot of love for the man’
Liam Payne revealed that he recently spoke to his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles during an Instagram Live on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old took a break from speaking about his upcoming entrepreneurial interests to answer a fan’s question whether he and the Watermelon Sugar singer were still in touch.
The hitmaker responded enthusiastically to the inquiry, noting that he and the 27-year-old songwriter had recently spoken and that he greatly appreciated the call.
Staying in touch: Liam Payne revealed he recently had a ‘really nice’ phone call with his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles during an Instagram Live released Wednesday
Payne said bluntly, “Yes, I spoke to Harry, and it was very sweet.”
The former X Factor contestant further noted that Styles had contacted him to check on his friend in case something was wrong in his life.
The singer commented: “He called me because he has a sixth sense, because if I’m having a hard time or if one of us is in trouble, I’m excited for it.”
The Strip That Down lead singer noted that he greatly admired his former bandmate and was pleased with the success of his friend’s solo career.

Payne said that “it was actually a really nice catch up. And I have a lot of love for the man. He’s great, he’s really great.’
The singer did express a bit of regret about the fact that the two were not nearly as close as they once were.
“It’s sometimes difficult in this position, you look from a distance at the stories of people you used to know so well,” he noted.
He also suspected that all of his former bandmates felt the same way, saying, “That can be hard when you feel like there’s a piece of you missing from them at the time, I guess. And I think we’ve all felt this at different times, me and the boys.
“It’s almost as if you often miss a very dear friend. Everyone is so busy and you have to understand that,” he added.

Payne went on to comment that he was excited about the idea of getting together with his old friends and that the idea of seeing his bandmates again would be seriously nostalgic.
He said, ‘I’d like us to get into a room at some point. I think that would be best.’
The singer concluded that all the other One Direction members had had the idea of getting back together, even though they hadn’t set anything in stone at the time.
“We all said it outside, but we just didn’t say it to each other,” Payne said.

Payne and Styles, as well as their other bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, were first brought together in 2010 after auditioning separately for The X Factor.
Series creator Simon Cowell and former guest judge Nicole Scherzinger have both claimed that they originally put the five singers together.
Though they didn’t win the contest, the group stayed together and released the 2011 chart-topping hit What Makes You Beautiful.

The group went on to enjoy several years of extreme success, releasing a total of five albums during their time together.
However, Malik left to pursue a solo career in March 2015, and although the remaining members chose to continue performing together, they became inactive as a band in January 2016 and have been on hiatus ever since.
All the former members of the band have pursued their own projects since their disbandment.
