Liam Gallagher leads tribute to Sergio Aguero after news that Man City icon will be leaving this summer
Liam Gallagher and Marcus Rashford have led the tribute for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero after it was announced that he will be leaving the Premier League club this summer.
City’s all-time record scorer leaves Pep Guardiola’s side after a decade at Etihad Stadium, where he has won four Premier League titles to date and scored 257 goals in all competitions.
The 32-year-old will be immortalized with a statue outside City’s stadium to acknowledge his work in transforming the club into one of the best European clubs, with fellow club legends David Silva and Vincent Kompany also hosting one.

But rock star and die-hard City fan Liam Gallagher paid a special tribute to Aguero via social media Monday night by tweeting: ‘To the one and only SERGIO AGUERO thank you for all the good times you brought to our club, your absolute LEGEND good luck in the future LG x ‘
Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Rashford described the 32-year-old as a ‘great player’ after the announcement, despite the Argentine playing for the fierce city rivals of the Red Devils.
Aguero arrived in Manchester City in 2011 for £ 35 million from Atletico Madrid, with the club vying to become one of the best teams in England following the takeover of the Abu Dhabi United Group three years earlier.

The Argentine forward won the Premier League title in his first season with the club, scoring the infamous injury-time winner against Queen’s Park Rangers to take the league out of the hands of city rival United on the final day of the season.
Agüero has been struggling with injury issues for most of this season but is on the cusp of taking his fifth Premier League title as City has a dominant lead over its rivals with a few games to go.
His 181 Premier League goals so far, which he can build on for his last city game against Everton on May 23, make him one of the greatest strikers of all time and one of the greatest strikers of his generation.

Aguero could even end his 10-year stint at City with the quadruple as Guardiola’s men have a chance to win all four trophies available this season.
Manchester City fans have also taken to Twitter to post their emotional tribute to the greatest striker in the club’s history.
One City supporter said: ‘It really is the end of an era, I am just grateful he will leave as the best PL forward ever. and in my eyes the greatest striker of all time Goodbye, Sergio Aguero ‘
Another added: ‘Wasn’t prepared for this at all. I thought we had another season. He’s irreplaceable #mcfc #sergioaguero ‘

Fans of other teams tweeted their admiration for Aguero on social media after Monday night’s news.
One Arsenal fan said: ‘Regardless of the team you support, you simply have to respect Sergio Aguero. Easily one of the greatest strikers the Premier League has ever seen. The competition will miss him. ‘
Another said: ‘I am a Manchester United supporter but if I deserve credit Sergio Aguero was a great player for City and above that with the very best natural goalscorers I have ever seen.’

In a statement on the club’s website, City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: ‘Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the past 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly engraved in the memories of everyone who loves the club and maybe even those who simply love football.
“Now is not the time for parting words and speeches. There is still much to be accomplished in the rest of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges that lie ahead.
In the meantime, I am delighted to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live in the Etihad Stadium next to the statues under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to say a fitting goodbye to Sergio at the end of the season. ‘

Aguero himself paid tribute to City and the club in his own statement on Monday night, saying: ‘I still have a tremendous sense of accomplishment and pride for having played ten seasons at Manchester City – unusual for a professional player this day and age.
Ten seasons of great achievements, in which I was able to become the top scorer and forge an indestructible bond with everyone who loves this club – people who will always be in my heart. We have earned a place among the world’s largest.
The task of holding onto this well-deserved position remains with others. I will continue to do my very best for the rest of the season to win more titles and to bring more fun to the fans. ‘
