Lewis Hamilton debuts a pair of nose studs ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton rocks an Obi Wan Kenobi-style pleated skirt ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix… while holding on to his nose buttons after breaking his promise to boycott the race over piercings

Lewis Hamilton took inspiration from Star Wars legend Obi Wan Kenobi for his latest F1 fashion parade on Sunday.

The racer modeled a tan ensemble with a pleated sash, resembling the outfit worn by Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan in the Star Wars movie franchise.

Lewis paired his unusual outfit with a pair of nose studs ahead of the F1 Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The 38-year-old driver showed off his sharp sense of style in a brown jersey and matching half skirt, which he wore over tailored trousers.

He completed his look with mirrored orange sunglasses and wore his braids in a ponytail.

Lewis previously admitted he would have to pull out of last year’s F1 Miami Grand Prix if the FIA insisted he remove his piercings.

But in a high-speed U-turn, he agreed to an on-track medical examination and took out all but two of the piercings.

Lewis insisted the studs cannot be easily removed and was given a two-race exemption to keep them in place while he looks at possible solutions.

According to reports, FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem is ‘fixated’ on cracking down on Lewis’ breach of the rules as he continues to wear jewels to race.

At a pre-race press conference last year, Lewis made a statement wearing three watches, eight rings, four necklaces, a bracelet and two earrings.

When asked what was going on with his piercings, he said, “I really don’t know. Like I said, I can’t delete at least two.

“One that I can’t really explain where it is. But what I can say is that it’s platinum that I have, so it’s not magnetic. It has never been a safety issue in the past.”

Lewis added that there is a possibility he won’t be racing, saying: “So yes, if they stop me then so be it. We have a reserve driver. So we are well prepared for the weekend.

‘There is a lot to do in the city anyway, so it will be fine anyway. I couldn’t get any more (jewelry) today!’

He said he believes the initiative is a “step backwards” for the sport and shared how he has been wearing jewelery while racing for 16 years.

However, his U-turn agreement to the medical test and the two-race exemption to keep them in means he can continue driving for the time being.
