During her performance at Glastonbury in 2023, Lewis was coming off a three-week mental health break he had taken to ‘rest and recover’.
Returning to the stage, the singer admitted he had been “very scared” to perform when speaking about his mental health issues and confirmed he would be taking another break away from the spotlight after the show.
In the middle of his performance, Lewis confessed that he was struggling with his Tourette syndrome and said that his voice had recovered, after having been coughing throughout the show.
Tourette syndrome is a neurological condition characterized by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics, and can cause speech and voice abnormalities.
Despite his struggles, Lewis insisted on continuing his performance and his fans supported him, and the show came to an emotional close when the crowd sang Someone You Love for him.
In the touching moment, Lewis crossed the Pyramid Stage and sang short bursts of the song, while the friendly crowd sang at the top of their lungs in support of the star.
After her performance, Lewis took to social media to say, “The fact that this probably isn’t a surprise doesn’t make writing any easier.”
