The switch from writer to full member on Saturday Night Live catapulted her into stardom.
But Leslie Jones now branches off the NBC variety show and does not return for the 45th season of the show that starts on September 28.
EW reported Tuesday that the 51-year-old is instead concentrating on upcoming projects and her special Netflix comedy 2020.

Instead of returning, the Ghostbusters actress instead returns to her independent comic career.
Leslie is currently filming the Coming to America Beeps, Coming 2 America, alongside Tracy Morgan, Rick Ross and Eddie Murphy.
Earlier this month, she announced that she would be filming a stand-up special with the streaming giant next year.
The comedian also plays opposite Chris Rock in the boxing drama I Am Maurice, and alongside Kristen Bell in Queenpins.

Her hilarious features on the Weekend Update, where she often flirted with Colin Jost, often caused controversy, but she also made her a comical staple on the air.
Leslie consistently brought an influx of charisma, relatable ready-made comments and a unique perspective on her scenes on SNL.
For her work on the show, she earned Emmy nominations for Supporting Actress in a comedy series in 2017 and 2018 and an excellent nomination for original music and lyrics for co-writing from The Upper East Side.
SNL is a time-consuming show that films about 20 weeks of the year from the end of September to May and requires a week of preparation prior to the live recording.

She debuted in the show in the spring of 2014 and that fall, she was bumped into a recommended cast member before joining the cast ensemble in 2015.
At the age of 47, she became the oldest person to ever participate in the sketch comedy series and with her addition in 2014, it made the first time in the history of SNL that cast included more than one black woman.
Leslie seems to be the only cast member not returning for the coming season, as Kate McKinnon extended her contract for another season, although there is no word about who will replace her.
The SNL cast currently also includes Keenan Thompson, the longest attracted cast member in the show's history (16 years), Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Colin Jost, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Cecily Strong, and Melissa Villasenor. Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Chris Redd are recommended players.
