Leicester gave fitness boost for Manchester City clash with James Maddison ready to return after a month with a hip problem and Brendan Rodgers backs his midfielder to make England’s Euro 2020 squad
- James Maddison will be fit to return for the Leicester-Manchester City clash
- The 24-year-old has been sidelined with a hip injury at Aston Villa
- Brendan Rodgers says he ‘looks great’ ahead of Pep Guardiola’s visit
Brendan Rodgers believes James Maddison is firmly in the frame for a place in England’s Euro 2020 team, despite missing the final meeting due to injury.
The Leicester playmaker is available for Saturday’s game with Manchester City after recovering from a hip problem that kept him out since the 2-1 win at Aston Villa on 21 February.
Maddison has won just one senior cap – against Montenegro in 2019 – and faces a battle to break into the roster for the tournament due to his lack of recent playing time.

But Foxes boss Rodgers is confident Maddison’s class will make it hard for Gareth Southgate to ignore.
“He has consistently shown through his level of performance that he deserves a place in the squad,” said Rodgers.
But it is clearly a very competitive and very talented squad.
“ If he can play again and get back to where he was, that will give Gareth and his staff a decision to make. Of course he would love to be on that squad.
“He just has to focus on coming back for Leicester and get back into some sort of rhythm to finish the season strong, then that’s all you can do.”

Maddison’s return is a huge boost for Leicester as they try to cement their place in the top four during the run-in of the season.
They will also have defender Ricardo Pereira available against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Rodgers added: ‘Obviously, James is not 100 percent match fit, but in terms of his football fitness, he looks great. For the past few weeks he has been working with the team and players we have available.
‘This week he has it up and looks great, which is really good news. Hopefully he can now stay fit until the end of the season. ‘
