Lead star Brenda Blethyn said: “Working on Vera has been a pleasure from start to finish and I’m sad to say Cheerio.”

‘But I am very proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years. I will be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves, who created Vera, and Elaine Collins, who saw fit to cast me in the role.

“The producers, cast and dream crew have been fabulous and I will miss them, but I will not forget their enormous talent, the camaraderie, the laughter or kindness we shared or the friendship of the people of the Northeast and our fans throughout the world.

Legendary film, stage and television actress Brenda Blethyn OBE will return to the iconic role of Vera for one final series.

The Academy and Emmy-nominated actress has confirmed that she has decided to hang up DCI Vera Stanhope’s infamous trench coat and hat after filming season 14 this summer, which she will film alongside the cast, crew and crew she values as friends in their beloved Northumberland and the North East.

Since filming for Vera began in 2011, inspired by the character created by bestselling author and Diamond Dagger Award-winning writer Ann Cleeves, Brenda’s love, passion and appetite for drama and the character of Vera have never They have faltered.
