- Dick Vitale has dealt with four cancer attacks since 2021
Dick Vitale has shared more good news about his recovery from cancer.
The legendary college basketball announcer revealed last month that he was cancer-free after being diagnosed with lymph node cancer in June.
And on Wednesday, he revealed that he had been given the green light to call games again after an examination of his vocal cords.
“I just looked at my vocal cords and was very excited by Dr. ZEITELS’ great report,” Vitale wrote in @espn.’
Vitale has not called college basketball games since the 2022-23 season due to the effects of vocal cord cancer, which he was diagnosed with in July 2023.
Before that, he was treated for lymphoma and melanoma in 2021 before being declared cancer-free the following year.
The legendary Dick Vitale, 85, has received the green light to continue calling games.
Vitale, a former college and NBA coach, joined ESPN 45 years ago during the 1979-80 college season.
Considered a legend in the basketball world, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
