Former radio and television star Jeremy Cordeaux has been charged with drunk driving for the third time

A veteran radio and television presenter is due to appear in court later this year after being charged with drink-driving for a third time.

Jeremy Nicholas Cordeaux, 79, who spent almost six decades working in radio and television, was stopped by police in the car park of the Feathers Hotel in Burnside, in Adelaide’s east, on November 11 last year.

Cordeaux, 79, was charged with one count of driving with excess blood alcohol content after allegedly testing 0.108, more than double the legal limit of 0.05, according to police documents filed in court.

The former FIVEaa presenter did not attend Adelaide Magistrates Court for a scheduled hearing into the matter on Tuesday.

His lawyer, Hugh Woods, told the magistrate he would need more time to discuss the case with his client. Adelaide Advertiser reported.

“Your Honor, I request an adjournment to receive final instructions from my client,” Mr. Woods said.

Judge Christopher Smolicz adjourned the matter and Cordeaux is due to appear in court in October.

Cordeaux had previously been arrested for drunk driving while returning from a Christmas party in 2016.

He lost his license for six months, was fined $950 and ordered to pay $520 in court costs.

One conviction was also recorded.

Mr Cordeaux told The Advertiser the 2016 offence was because his wife drove to a Christmas party but failed to return home.

“I decided I would do the right thing as a gentleman, but it was a very bad thing,” he said.

He was also sanctioned for the same violation in 2019.

In 2021, was disqualified from driving for a further six months after pleading guilty to driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.056 on Glen Osmond Rd.

Cordeaux was fired from his former hosting position at radio station FIVEaa in 2021 after dismissing Brittany Higgins’ rape allegations as nothing more than “a dumb girl who got drunk” during an on-air segment.

Cordeaux allegedly had a blood alcohol reading of 0.108, more than twice the legal limit.

“I wonder why the Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) doesn’t call her out for what she is: a silly girl who got drunk,” Cordeaux said.

FiveAA breakfast host David Penberthy later announced that Cordeaux’s contract had been “terminated”.

In a statement read on air, Penberthy apologised to Ms Higgins and withdrew the comments.

“Mr. Cordeaux’s employment has been terminated and FiveAA and Nova Entertainment have immediately taken further steps to ensure this does not happen again,” it said.

‘The views expressed by Jeremy Cordeaux do not reflect those of FiveAA and Nova Entertainment and we unequivocally remove them.’

The dismissal ended a long career in television and radio in Sydney and Adelaide.
