Leeds United’s survival hopes have been dealt a huge blow after Tyler Adams was forced to have surgery on a hamstring injury.
The USMNT midfielder missed the Whites’ 4-2 victory over Wolverhampton after fixing the issue in training. As a result, he had to withdraw from international duty.
Now, Adams has been set for a long time on the sidelines after club doctors decided he needed to go under the knife.
Leeds are still assessing how long the 24-year-old is likely to stay out, but his absence will be sorely felt.
The United States captain withdrew from international duty after suffering a hamstring injury and instead remained at the Thorp Arch training ground in Leeds in place of the United States captaincy.

The United States managed to survive without Adams during their 1-0 victory over El Salvador on Monday night.
He secured the Stars and Stripes place in the CONCACAF semi-finals, which will take place in June.
Adams has started 24 of 27 Premier League matches this season after moving to Elland Road from RB Leipzig last summer.
The 24-year-old was brought to Leeds by former manager and countryman, Jesse Marsh.
He was joined by compatriots Brendan Aaronson, Weston and Kenny at Elland Road as the trio became the first three American players in nearly 15 years to start for the same side in a Premier League match last month.
Adams is a product of MLS affiliate New York Red Bulls – coming through their academy before first-team performances caught the eye of the team’s older German brother.
Willy Junonto and Max Weber also doubted Leeds’ fitness ahead of their visit to Arsenal on Saturday after suffering minor injuries on international duty.
Javi Gracia’s side are 14th in the table but sit just two points above the relegation zone.
In the next place, the white team leads the Emirates League leaders Arsenal, followed by Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, both of which are at home.
