LeBron James has announced that he will support Kamala Harris in next week's election

NBA legend LeBron James has announced that he will endorse Kamala Harris in next week’s presidential election.

The Lakers star, who plays alongside his son Bronny in Los Angeles, publicly endorsed the vice president on social media Thursday.

‘What are we talking about here?’ he wrote to his 53 million followers on X and his 159 million followers on Instagram.

‘When I think about my children and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE FOR KAMALA HARRIS!!!’

To back up his endorsement, the NBA star posted a video that stitched together footage from the civil rights movement and controversial comments Trump made.

The clip ends with the message “hate takes us back” and begins with footage from Trump’s recent rally in New York, when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe sparked outrage with his jokes.

James, who is the latest celebrity to endorse Harris, has campaigned for Democrats in the past and has spoken out publicly against former President Trump.

In 2008, the NBA star hosted a Jay-Z concert to support Barack Obama’s run for the White House. He later campaigned for Hillary Clinton during her battle with Trump in 2016.

A year later, James criticized Trump on social media. It came after Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry said he would skip the NBA champions’ traditional visit to the White House, prompting Trump to “withdraw” the invitation.

“You’re a bum,” LeBron wrote. ‘@StephenCurry30 already said he won’t go! Therefore, there is no invitation. Going to the White House was a great honor until you showed up!

In 2020, James helped form a group to fight voter disenfranchisement in predominantly Black communities ahead of the election between Trump and Joe Biden.

Two years earlier, James’ activism on racial justice issues — and his criticism of Trump — led white Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham in 2018 to tell him and fellow NBA star Kevin Durant that they ” “they will be silent and haggle.”
