Hangover ! Two American tourists are found asleep near the top of the Eiffel Tower after becoming trapped inside a Paris landmark overnight ‘due to being drunk’
Two American tourists were found sleeping a heavy night high above the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Monday, after dodging security the night before, the monument’s operator said Tuesday.
Security guards woke the men “early in the morning” as they made their rounds before the French monument opened at 9 a.m., public Eiffel Tower operator Sete said.
They “seem to have gotten stuck because of their drunkenness,” Paris prosecutors told AFP.
The intoxicated Americans had spent their illicit night under the stars in a location normally closed to the public between the tower’s second and third levels, but “posed no apparent threat”, Sete said.

After paying for an entrance ticket around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, the couple jumped the security barriers as they descended the stairs from the top of the tower, a police source said.
Firefighters, including a unit specializing in the recovery of people at height, were sent to recover the intruders, added the police source.
Both men were taken to the 7th arrondissement police station in Paris for questioning, while Sete said he would file a criminal complaint.
The discovery of the nocturnal infiltrators delayed the opening of the tower to the public on Monday morning by about an hour.
Two bomb threats had forced the evacuation of the monument on Saturday, and the police are currently investigating.
Another email containing a bomb threat against the 330-meter (1,080-foot) steel tower was sent to three Paris police stations on Monday, but police advised against evacuating it.
