‘Ciao Guero’: Lazio pays tribute to youth team player Daniel Guerini with warm-up shirts during the team’s Serie A match against Spezia after 19-year-old’s fatal car accident

Lazio players paid tribute to their late player Daniel Guerini by wearing commemorative shirts during the warm-up of their game against Spezia on Saturday after the youth star was killed in a car accident in Rome at the age of 19.
The teenager, who had previously played in the academies of Fiorentina, Torino and SPAL and had represented Italy at the Under 15 and Under 16 level, died in the collision on March 24.
The Rome-based club revealed that the club’s players would wear a special shirt that read ‘Ciao Guero’ to commemorate Guerini, along with a photo of him pointing to the club’s emblem on his return to Le Aquile.

“The team will wear a special shirt in memory of Daniel Guerini during the warm-up,” said a club tweet.
“The club will honor the memory of the young Lazio youth team player in other ways as well.”
Lazio, who won the match 2-1, said on social media at the time of his death: “ Still incredulous and shaken by pain, the president, the men and women of the Lazio Sports Club are gathering around the family of the young Daniel Guerini. . ‘
Guerini’s former clubs also paid tribute, as did AC Milan, Atalanta and Serie A leaders Inter.
Guerini left Lazio on a permanent basis in 2016 to join Torino’s academy, before a few loan periods with Fiorentina followed.

Guerini’s funeral took place on April 1, where the club’s national anthem, Vola Lazio Vola, was sung outside the church where he was buried.
The funeral was attended by Lazio owner Claudio Lotito, head coach Simone Inzaghi, some of the first team players and all former Primavera (Lazio youth) teammates.
