Laverne Cox will not be returning to E! Live from the Red Carpet after serving as host of the program for the last three years.
The actress, 52, made the announcement Thursday through a lengthy statement on Instagram, where she explained the reason for her shocking departure.
The news comes just days before the Golden Globes take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5, officially kicking off the 2025 awards season.
Cox has hosted E! Red carpet news coverage of the Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and other major Hollywood events since signing in January 2022.
“With incredible gratitude, I have decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage,” she began Thursday’s post.
While calling the experience an “incredible privilege,” Cox, who recently appeared on a hit television competition show, said he hopes to explore new career “opportunities.”

‘I am incredibly proud of the work we did during my three years in office. “I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone at @nbcuniversal, @eentertainment and @denofthievestv for their incredible support,” Cox continued.
“These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world’s greatest artists about their work, how to deal with the pressures of success, etc.
‘I am very excited to continue growing, evolving and exploring great opportunities as an actress, artist, host and speaker. I hope you all continue to accompany me on my journey of evolution,” Cox wrote to his 7 million followers.
To close out his post, the Orange Is The New Black star linked his new project to Amazon Prime.
“Tune in to my new comedy series ‘Clean Slate’ premiering on Amazon Prime on February 6th,” he wrote.
Along with his heartfelt words, Cox posted a video featuring some of his favorite moments from interviews from the past three years.
The reel featured brief clips of her red carpet chats with stars including Andrew Garfield, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anne Hathaway, Cynthia Erivo, Steve Martin and Dua Lipa.
Cox’s final hosting gig with E! Live from the red carpet was the 2024 Emmys, which took place on September 15 in Los Angeles.
In addition to being a red carpet staple, Cox is also a decorated actress and producer.

It won a Daytime Emmy in 2015 for Outstanding Special Class Special for executive producer Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.
The victory was historic as the Alabama native became the first openly transgender woman to win the coveted honor.
She has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards for her performance on the hit Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, which ran for seven seasons on the streamer.
Her other notable credits as a television actress include: Doubt (2017) and Inventing Anna (2022).
Cox has also made a new appearance in film, having recently starred in the Netflix sci-fi film Uglies (2024) and had a memorable role in Promising Young Woman (2020).
Her latest project, Clean Slate, which she co-executive produced, will soon be available to stream on Prime Video starting in February.

“That meeting with Norman was a dream,” he said. “It was also very intimidating casting with Norman Lear.”
She said Lear, who died in December 2023, asked her and co-star Wallace to improvise one of the scenes from the show’s pilot episode for him.
“And after that first introductory meeting, we were having coffee and debriefing, and Norman said to me, ‘For the next meeting, that was good…can you do it, but fun?'” Cox fondly recalled.
