Barcelona and Real Madrid will “wage war” this summer over the signing of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The 22-year-old Argentinian sees himself as a much sought-after man who has so far produced an impressive season to hold Inter in Serie A title competition.

And according to Mundo Deportivo, El Clasico rivals ‘prioritize’ a new striker for next season and Martinez – who has a € 111 million (£ 95 million) release clause in his contract – has emerged as their top 9 target.

Barcelona is thought to see Martinez as a long-term successor to Luis Suarez, who is 33 and 11 years older than the Inter-star.

Suarez is out for the rest of the season, along with Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and Quique Setien is desperately looking for new bodies for next season to ease the burden of goals on Lionel Messi, Martinez’s Argentinian counterpart.

For Real Madrid, they have been struggling to score goals since Cristiano Ronaldo left and the summer signing of Luka Jovic failed to hit the ground while walking at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Manchester United and Manchester City have previously been credited with interest in the player, but there is a growing belief that Spain is his most likely destination should he choose to leave Inter.

His current San Siro deal ends in June 2023 after he signed a five-year deal in 2018 when he joined Racing Club.
