Lauren Scruggs and Jason Kennedy are expecting their second child after becoming pregnant ‘naturally’ – WhatsNew2Day

Date:

Lauren Scruggs and Jason Kennedy are expecting their second child.

The 34-year-old author and fashion blogger and her husband, 41, took to Instagram on Tuesday with a heartwarming clip revealing they’re adding to their family — which they say came as a “huge surprise.”

The couple’s announcement comes just over a year after they welcomed their first child, son Ryver, on April 3, 2022 after years of fertility struggles, an IVF journey and a lengthy home birth with complications.

The Redondo Beach, California resident captioned the clip: “This was a big surprise and the sweetest plot twist – can’t wait to see little Ryver become a big brother.”

In the montage, Scruggs and Kennedy, an entertainment journalist featured on E! and the Today show, could be heard telling his young son, “Peek a boo! You’re going to be a big brother.’

The latest: Lauren Scruggs, 34, and husband Jason Kennedy, 41, took to Instagram on Tuesday with a heartwarming clip revealing they are adding to their family as they are parents to son Ryver, a

The clip began with Kennedy playing peek-a-boo with his one-year-old son, holding a positive pregnancy test while the adorable toddler laughed in his crib. Ryver was seen beaming as he held up the pregnancy test and sat with his parents.

Kennedy revealed in April 2022 that Scruggs had to undergo a vacuum extraction during labor and suffered a fourth-degree vaginal tear in the process.

Scruggs had planned a natural birth at home, but she ended up in the hospital after 23 hours of labour.

He took to Instagram to share a video of Scruggs going into labor at home and in hospital, followed by footage of them with their newborn baby.

My wife is incredible. She has been lying low for the past few weeks so she can heal. Our home birth didn’t go as planned,” he wrote in the caption. ‘After 23 hours we went to the hospital. Ryver took another 10 hours.’

“Lo had a 4th degree tear and we had to do a vacuum birth,” he added. “Great doctor, midwives and team. I watch her pump, hold and comfort my son as I type this. I love these moments, I love this feeling and I love how you care about our boy. I love you.’

A vacuum extraction, also known as vacuum-assisted delivery, is a procedure that uses a vacuum device to assist the delivery of a baby during a vaginal delivery.

The health care provider applies a vacuum to the baby’s head to guide the baby out of the birth canal, usually during a contraction while the mother pushes, according to the Mayo clinic.

The procedure may be recommended if the mother is pushing but labor is not progressing or if the baby’s health depends on an immediate delivery.

There are potential risks, including injury to the mother or baby. A cesarean section may be necessary if a vacuum extraction does not help with delivery.

Scruggs suffered a perineal tear, which is common for a vaginal birth. The degrees of severity range from first and second degree for minor cuts and abrasions to third and fourth degree for deep tears in the muscles and tissues.

A fourth-degree tear, like the one she experienced, is the most serious, because it extends through the anal sphincter and into the mucous membrane that lines the rectum, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Although Kennedy did not detail his wife’s treatment, fourth-degree tears usually need to be repaired in an operating room with the mother under anesthesia.

Scruggs had previously shared in a blog post that her “ultimate birth plan” [was] a natural birth.’

She explained that she initially thought she would give birth in a hospital with an epidural, but after she “didn’t feel completely comfortable with [her] OB,” she turned to an obstetrician and met with a doula.

“Our doula has helped me replace fear with the beauty of birth, let go of control, accept support and sink in and open up to the pain because the joy is ahead,” she said.
