Laura Byrne and Matty ‘J’ Johnson have spent $2 million on an abandoned house in a major renovation project.
The Bachelor power couple have added to their multi-million dollar property portfolio with the purchase of the property in Ulladulla, about 230 kilometres south of Sydney.
The house in ruins has special meaning for the couple as it is close to Cupitts Estate Winery, where Laura and Matt tied the knot in November 2022.
The cliff-top home has panoramic ocean views and is appropriately named Chante-Mer, which means “singing the sea” in French.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom property is spread over two levels and last sold in 1984 for $62,500.
The historic residence formerly Belonged to a United Nations The translator, who died in 2021, and Laura and Matt paid $2.19 million for the notebook, according to the The Telegraph newspaper.
The abandoned house has an area of 746 square meters and is surrounded by large windows that offer panoramic views of the Hipódromo beach.
The couple plan to completely renovate the “old beauty” to bring it back to its former standard and confirmed the exciting news in a post shared on Instagram this week.

The Bachelor power couple have expanded their property portfolio by purchasing a rundown property (pictured) in Ulladulla, about 230 kilometres south of Sydney.
“A couple of months ago we bought an old, run-down house on the south coast. A little glass house by the sea full of stories and history that had been closed up and empty for the past two years,” they wrote in the caption.
‘The South Coast is a magical place for us, it’s where we got married and now it’s where we’ll make memories as a family.’
They’ve created an Instagram page where they plan to keep their fans updated on the massive renovation project every step of the way.
They have already shared photos of their daughters Marlie-Mae, five, and Lola, three, visiting their future “dream home”.
The reality TV stars currently live in a four-bedroom apartment in North Bondi, which they purchased for $5.2 million in 2023.
They also have a stunning $1.8 million holiday home in Bangalow, near Byron Bay.
After getting engaged in Fiji in April 2018, Laura and Matty finally tied the knot on the south coast in November 2022, five years after meeting on The Bachelor.
They are one of the most successful couples on the show and welcomed daughter Marlie-Mae in 2019, followed by Lola in February 2021.

However, Laura recently told the I’ve Got News For You podcast that their love story almost didn’t happen because she got cold feet the day before filming began in 2017.
“I completely changed my mind and didn’t go to the shoot,” he admitted.
“If you’re selected (for The Bachelor), they give you a time and a place, and it’s a secret time and place, to try to throw off the paparazzi,” he explained.
‘Mine was a pickup location in Alexandria at a random park at 3pm, and you’re supposed to show up with all your bags and a bus will come pick you up.
“I remember it was 3pm and I was sitting at home and I hadn’t packed a suitcase. I completely changed my mind. I didn’t really want to do it; I was worried about how it would look competing for a man’s attention on a reality show.”
She then received a call from the producers who gave her until 10am the next day to decide and she had a dream that night that changed her mind.
