Laura Benanti reveals she suffered a miscarriage while performing on stage

Date:

Laura Benanti had a miscarriage while performing onstage Monday, she announced in a devastating post on Wednesday.

The actress and singer, 43, shared a photo from her Broadway cruise performance and revealed that she had a heartbreaking pregnancy loss as she sang to 2,000 People.

Describing how she has suffered many miscarriages in the past, the mother-of-two wrote: ‘On Monday April 3rd, I performed on stage for 2,000 people as I had an abortion. I knew it was happening. I started slowly the night before.

If this was our first loss, or even our second loss, I probably wouldn’t be able to continue. Unfortunately, however, I’m no stranger to the pain and emptiness of pregnancy loss.

It’s a path I’ve taken before, along with my husband. But this time we walked it alongside some of the kindest, most loving humans I’ll ever have the honor of sharing the space with.

Thank you to everyone in this audience for the blessing of your presence. To get me out of my grief over that sacred hour.

Thank you to my band for holding me in your hearts, unconditionally, and to the crew for working so hard to make me as comfortable as possible.

Thanks to my friends and fellow performers for rallying around me and graciously meeting my changing needs.

Thanks to the exceptional producers and their teams who can provide a master class on how to handle a personal emergency with compassion and empathy.

Thanks to my amazing mother-in-law and father-in-law for protecting Ella from the reality of this experience and giving her the time of her life while Mama’s back hurts. Thank you to that little soul for choosing me as your home, even for a little while.

The star shares two daughters Ella, five, and Louisa, nine months, born via surrogate, with husband Patrick Brown, whom she married in 2016.

She praised her partner and family for their support during her miscarriage, writing: ‘Patrick and I are so grateful for the family we have, and the miracle of our two little girls. One was carried by me and another by an angel on Earth.

My husband and I are grieving but we will get through this together as we, and so many others, have done before.

I am sharing all of this, not to gain sympathy or concern, but to remind the many people and families who have suffered and will suffer in this way that there is no shame in this kind of loss. You are not alone. And to remind myself too. My hand is in your hand, Laura.

In July 2022, Laura announced that she had welcomed her daughter via a surrogate in a post shared on Instagram.

The artist uploaded two photos of her eldest daughter, Ella, as she bonded with her newborn sister, Louisa, who was covered in a blanket.

Benanti began her letter by revealing the name of her infant daughter and noting that she was born in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Please, welcome to the world of Luisa Georgia Benante Brown. On July 9th, at 2:43 a.m., we were blessed with the arrival of our second daughter,”

However, the Tony Award-winning actress noted that bringing another child into her family’s life was no easy task.

“Like many, the journey towards growing our family has faced many challenges,” she wrote.

Benanti then took the time to thank Louisa’s surrogate mother.

However, our journey has also been marked by the privilege of pursuing different paths to grow our family. Specifically, our adorable surrogate (Angel on Earth) who held our precious girl and delivered her into our arms.

Benanti said her agent has “an otherworldly generosity of spirit and body and kindness that can never be repaid.”

She then described her daughters Ella and Louise as “Rainbow Babies” and referred to them as the “Rainbow Sisters”.

The performer was previously married to Spin Doctors frontman Chris Barron, though they divorced in 2006.

The Detour cast member later married Stephen Pascual, and they divorced amicably in 2013.

Then, she tied the knot with Brown, and they brought Ella into their lives two years after their wedding.

Benante talked about fatherhood in an interview with Is learningwhere she indicated that it helped her to reach a greater understanding of her mother’s personality.

“Moms are just people,” she said. And it’s hard to tell when you’re a kid. It wasn’t until I had my daughter five years ago that I felt, “Oh, my mom is such a person.”

“My mom is a person, my dad is a person, my mom is a person, and everyone was really trying their best,” the actress added.
