According to the Sydney Morning HeraldNRL chief executive Andrew Abdo has contacted South Sydney boss Blake Solly to arrange a meeting with Mitchell this week to discuss his behaviour.

However, the full-back will not receive any default notice for the outburst.

“We encourage players to be themselves and be authentic,” Abdo said. ‘However, they also know that they are professionals and role models, which means leading by example.

“When we talk to fans through media interviews, we have a responsibility to be respectful.”

Mitchell has been in the spotlight this past week, with the NRL also deciding not to take action against him for wading into the racism row that saw Spencer Leniu receive an eight-match suspension for calling Ezra Mam a ‘monkey’.

Under the code of conduct, NRL players are not supposed to comment on active court cases before they have concluded, but Mitchell took to Instagram calling for a ban of at least eight to 12 weeks.

However, the NRL is expected to warn Mitchell about his behavior and remind him of his responsibilities as a professional footballer.
