WASHINGTON (AP) – The latest news about the car crash and shooting at the US Capitol complex (always local):

The suspect who rammed two US Capitol Police agents into a barricade was found to have a knife and was shot by police.

That’s according to two law enforcement officers who spoke to The Associated Press on Friday. The officials were unable to discuss an ongoing investigation and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity.

Officials say the suspect was seriously injured and taken into custody.

The incident took place at a checkpoint near the Capitol. The Capitol complex was locked up after the shooting.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CAR CRASH IN THE CAPITOL:

The crash and shooting on Friday took place at a checkpoint near the Capitol while Congress is on hiatus. It’s because Washington’s region remains on edge almost three months after a mob of armed insurgents stormed the Capitol as Congress voted to confirm Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
