Latest news on Iran drone attack: Israel prepares for huge air assault after Tehran launches 100 kamikaze planes and missiles towards Tel Aviv

The United States shot down an unmanned Iranian drone heading toward Israel, two US officials said.

The Israeli military put the northern part of the occupied Golan Heights, as well as Nevatim, Dimona and Eilat, on alert for a possible impact from Iranian drone launches early Sunday, and ordered residents to stay near the air raid shelters.

The Golan was captured from Syria in a 1967 war. Nevatim is the site of an Israeli air base. Israel has a nuclear reactor outside Dimona. Eilat is Israel’s southern Red Sea port, which has come under repeated attacks by Yemen’s Houthis.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations has warned the United States to “stay away” from its conflict with Israel.

This comes after President Joe Biden on Friday warned Iran against attacking Israel after saying such a scenario seemed imminent and pledged to support Israel against Iran.

European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell condemned Iran’s attacks on Israel on Saturday as an “unprecedented escalation.”

“The EU strongly condemns the unacceptable Iranian attack against Israel,” he wrote on the X platform.

“This is an unprecedented escalation and a serious threat to regional security.”

A Jordanian government spokesman denied that the kingdom had announced a state of emergency, saying media reports were unfounded and there was “no cause for concern among its citizens.”

Government Communications Minister Muhannad Mubaideen told state news agency Petra that the government would take legal action against any media outlet that spreads rumors or allegations that are not verified.

US President Joe Biden has begun his situation room meeting with national security advisers following the Iranian attacks on Israel, Reuters reports.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched multiple drones into Israel in coordination with Iran, security firm Ambrey said late Saturday, adding that the projectiles were likely timed to reach Israel simultaneously.

“The Houthis reportedly launched unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS) toward Israel. “The unmanned aerial vehicles were launched in coordination with Iran,” the company said.

“Israeli ports are considered potential targets,” he added, warning of “collateral damage” to shipping.

British and American aircraft have shot down some Iranian drones bound for Israel over the border area between Iraq and Syria, Israel’s top-rated television Channel 12 reported, according to the Reuters news agency.

Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron has condemned Iran’s attacks on Israel.

In a post on X/Twitter, he said: ‘Iran’s reckless attacks on Israel will only further inflame tensions in the Middle East.

It comes as Tehran launched some 100 kamikaze drones towards Israel, in a “dangerous escalation” of the conflict in the region.
