Today is the last opportunity for young people between 20 and 25 years old to get a free railway card for four years by opening an account with Santander.

The offer is available to non-students who complete an application to open an Everyday, Santander Edge or Santander Edge Up current account before the end of April 30.

They must also deposit at least £500 into the account by May 14 and set up online or mobile banking.

The bank said that, on average, between 16 and 25 Railcard users save £182 a year, meaning they could save around £728 over four years.

Santander already offers 16-25 free Railcards to students who open accounts and have at least two years left to study and apprentices from level four to seven.

The 16-25 Railcard offers users a third off the cost of train travel in England, Scotland and Wales, as well as off-peak London Underground travel, when linked to their Oyster card. .

Those who meet the eligibility criteria will receive a code to redeem their rail card by July 31. To register you must be between 20 and 25 years old as of June 30.

However, Santander said there are a limited number of rail cards available, meaning it could withdraw the offer before the end of the day if there is high demand.

Santander’s Andrea Melville said: ‘TThe rail card offers users a third of travel off the train to get where they want to go, but along with our Edge and Edge Up current accounts, customers can also benefit from cash back on their trips as well as their daily expenses and household bills.

The bank’s Everyday account offers a fee-free current account, while its Santander Edge account offers up to £20 cashback a month on essential spending and 7 per cent AER savings for a monthly fee of £3.

The Santander Edge Up account offers up to £30 cash back and 3.5 per cent credit interest on your current account balance for £5 a month.

The Edge and Edge Up accounts also offer fee-free spending abroad, while the Everyday account only allows free withdrawals at Santander ATMs.
