The diamond python (scientific name Morelia spilota spilota) is found in the coastal areas and adjacent mountain ranges of southeastern Australia, and is also the southernmost python in the world.
The average size of the animal is 2 meters, but it has been known to reach up to 3 meters.
Like all pythons, it is not poisonous. The diamond python is an ambush predator and uses constriction to incapacitate its prey, but is generally reluctant to attack humans.
However, if harassed, the diamond python is able to defend itself with its bite, and can leave fangs in the wound.
