He has expressed a willingness to replace Rubio, the president-elect’s pick to be secretary of state, in the Senate, telling The Associated Press it’s a role he would “seriously consider.”
“If I’m completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like,” he said. he told the AP in an article published Sunday. “And I certainly want to get as much information as possible if that’s a real thing for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
Among those supporting her as a possible replacement for Rubio are billionaire Elon Musk, a close ally of the incoming president, and his mother, Maye Musk.
But as much as the president-elect’s allies push for her to replace Rubio, the decision will ultimately fall to Florida Gov. Ron DeSanis.
DeSantis has said he plans to make a decision on the replacement in early January, and that it would follow a process that includes “a thorough investigation and interviews of candidates.”
