The Carolina Panthers have waived cornerback Lamar Jackson with an injury designation.
On Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers’ official website reported the 26-year-old’s resignation.
The decision came after Jackson suffered an injury during Saturday’s 15-12 preseason loss to the New York Jets. If Jackson is not claimed off waivers, he will return to the Panthers’ injured reserve and miss all of 2024.
However, if both sides come to an agreement on the injury this year, he would not be out of Charlotte for the first part of the season.
The former Nebraska CB joined the Panthers this offseason after stints with the Jets, Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.

He joined the Bears on January 19, 2022 on a reserve/future contract, but was waived by the Windy City on November 27.
Two days after the Bears released him, Jackson signed to the Broncos’ practice squad and was promoted to the active roster on Dec. 31. He was released by Denver on March 20, 2023.
Jackson’s last stop before ending up in Carolina was with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was a practice player from May through August 2023.
He signed a reserve/future contract with the Panthers on January 8 of this year.
