The incident occurred late in the first quarter of the Lakers ‘109-102 victory, bringing the Suns’ first-round streak on par with one match apiece.

Davis, an All-Star and former top pick, retired for a mid-range fadeaway jumper, but got fouled by Crowder when he collected his shot. Unfortunately for Crowder, Davis lifted his leg during his firing motion and simultaneously kicked the Suns forward in the groin.

Crowder quickly fell to the floor in obvious pain. Davis was whistled for a blatant foul, but was not sent off.

Crowder stayed in the game to take free throws, but then went to the bench, but not because of an injury.

Afterward, Davis told reporters that the kick was unintentional.

“It wasn’t intentional,” Davis said. ‘Jae knows that. He came and told me it was not intentional. I’ve never been the type of player to do something like this. But you get kicked into that area, I think it’s an automatic Flagrant 1 no matter the situation. I did not let it influence me. It was early in the game.

TNT announcer Reggie Miller gave Davis the benefit of the doubt, calling the kick “ unintentional. ”

A year ago, Davis got a blatant error for hitting then-Rockets forward Jeff Green with his hand in the groin as he headed toward the basket.

The Suns and Lakers nearly got into a few skirmishes in Game 1. Phoenix’s Cameron Payne was ejected after an argument with LA’s Alex Caruso, and LeBron James took a hard foul on a penalty kick from Chris Paul while she competed for a rebound. Paul also fell hard on his shoulder, but was able to stay in the game.
