Lainey Wilson almost left Yellowstone before making her acting debut in the popular drama.
The singer-turned-actress, 30, who rocked the audience during a performance of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” at the CMT Awards, said concern for her father’s health was the reason for her reluctance to continue the show.
“In the middle of filming Yellowstone, my dad was in the hospital, he was in the intensive care unit,” she said. Dutton Rules Podcast.
“He spent two months in the ICU in Houston, fighting for his life – the doctors told us he wouldn’t make it, there’s a good chance he won’t.”
After the frightening diagnosis, the “Heart Like a Truck” singer pondered what to do, but it was her father who miraculously encouraged her to take the job.

The Never Say Never singer was invited to join Season 5 of Yellowstone as Abby, as a local singer hired to play at Governor Kevin Costner’s John Dutton’s inauguration.
At the celebration, she sparks a romance with one of the boys, Ryan, played by Ian Bohen, but is reluctant to come forward, fearing that she will always come second to his job.
While there, the cast and crew would check in with her a lot, Lainey said.
She said, “Every day we were on set, they wanted to get updates on, ‘How’s your dad doing?'” We pray. We raise it.”

The future: It’s unclear if the burgeoning actress will be asked to return for the second half of Season 5, noting that there’s a lot up in the air as to whether Kevin Costner, who plays family patriarch John Dutton, will continue with the show.
Feeling good: Abby says she has a “good feeling” to be back on the show. “If they finish things the way they… plan, I’ll go back to it,” she told ET. “We’ll see, they haven’t taken me to the train station yet.”
After her debut, the award-winning singer snapped a few details of the experience, strumming her guitar and singing, “Yellowstone was good to me. They put some of my songs on TV.”
