Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves insisted today that Britain will not return to austerity after being pressed about the “gloom and doom” of the Labour Party since it came to power.

Ms Reeves was also questioned about the gifts controversy that hit the party after it accepted clothing donations during the election campaign.

He appeared on the radio ahead of his speech at the Labour conference in Liverpool, where he will deliver the party’s economic message to the country.
