Kylie Minogue ‘thinks she was tricked’ into appearing in Neighbors’ ‘last episode’ and Guy Pearce slams it as a ‘waste of time’ now that the show is being resurrected on Amazon
- Guy Pearce, 55, who played Mike Young, said the end of the show was “hard to watch”.
- Kylie Minogue, 54, has a ‘hump’ over the ending and felt ‘cheated’ into acting in it
It was the springboard that launched their hugely successful careers, so when they announced last year that Neighbors would be axed after 37 years, the show’s stars faithfully returned to Ramsay Street for a stellar finale.
But now some are furious after news broke that the Australian soap will be resurrected on streaming giant Amazon.
Hollywood actor Guy Pearce, who returned for the last three episodes before Channel 5 canceled the show, was the first to criticize the production heads.
The 55-year-old, fondly remembered for his role as brooding heartthrob Mike Young, commented caustically on the supposed ending: “Hard to watch, isn’t it?
‘Knowing we’ll never see another episode again? A painful reminder that the things we love can be taken away, never to return.

“Unless Amazon comes in to save the day and makes our endgame look like a pretty expensive exercise.”
And he added: ‘I don’t want to say waste of time. But still.’
Meanwhile, sources in Melbourne, where Neighbors was filmed, have revealed that Kylie Minogue, whose career took off while playing mechanic Charlene Robinson between 1986 and 1988, also felt she had been “tricked” into coming back.
One told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Kylie apparently has a bit of a hump about all this. It’s a case of why she and others made the effort to come back. She and the others were told it was the end.
“She knows what she owes Neighbors and always would have, but it all seems a bit bewildering.”
Ms. Minogue, 54, returned for the final episode last July along with Jason Donovan, who played her husband Scott.
Another former Ramsay Street actress, Margot Robbie, who is about to star in the Barbie movie, made a video for the episode from Los Angeles.
He tried to change his schedule so he could travel to Australia to film, but when that proved impossible, he sent 37 bottles of champagne, one for every year the show was on the air.

The source added: ‘Imagine if Margot had managed to swing it so she could travel from Hollywood to Melbourne and back after all? She would have been fuming.
Other Neighbors veterans who appeared in last year’s finale included Natalie Imbruglia and Holly Valance.
Last year it was announced that Neighbors would no longer be filmed after Channel 5 and production company Fremantle failed to reach a new deal.
However, it was confirmed last month that Amazon Freevee would be bringing back the show.
