Kylie Kelce has revealed the ridiculous item her brother-in-law, Travis, bought with his first NFL paycheck.
Before earning more than $76 million in NFL salary over his first 11 seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made some outlandish — and potentially irresponsible — financial decisions when he received his first signing bonus.
Talking about 94 in progress In Philadelphia, Kylie revealed that Travis was excited to have purchased a pair of Marty McFly shoes, the same ones worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future II. This led to his older brother Jason telling him off during Travis’ visit to the City of Brotherly Love that year.
“Early on, when we were dating, Travis came into town, I think in Marty McFly shoes,” Kylie recalled.
“I didn’t get a chance to meet Travis at the time, but Jason told me after the fact how much of a pain it made him when Travis revealed how much he spent on the shoes. That’s kind of justified.”
Kylie Kelce Reveals The Ridiculous Purchase Her Brother-In-Law Travis Made With His First Paycheck
Travis was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 63rd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The pair, based on the movie ‘Back to the Future II,’ is currently listed for sale for $38,500 on StockX. Kelce also used the shoes to purchase a Rolex watch.
The exact price Kelce paid for them remains a mystery. However, his purchase came as Nike auctioned off 1,500 pairs of the shoe on eBay to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Speaking on his New Heights podcast in 2021, Travis recalled: ‘I was taken with the first pick in the third round to get about $800,000, so I ended up getting between $500,000 and $600,000, after taxes and everything.
“I walked into an empty apartment with Marty McFlys on and a Rolex. I felt like the coolest guy in the world.”
After signing his rookie contract, the tight end splurged on a pair of Nike Marty McFlys.
Kelce recalled pairing the expensive pair of shoes with a Rolex, spending most of his bonus.
Travis’ older brother, Jason, gave his brother a stern lecture after seeing the price of the shoes.
“I always wanted those shoes, I was always a huge Nike fan and I watched Back to the Future so many times and I saw what Nikes would look like in the future and the fact that they were anti-gravity and self-lacing.”
Jason replied: ‘Someone told me you bought those shoes and I looked up how much they cost and I remember thinking, ‘What the fuck, Travis?’
More than a decade after being drafted, Kelce has proven his worth and earned a two-year, $34.25 million contract to stay with the Chiefs. Still, Kylie remains adamant about the recklessness of her first purchase.
“They’re pretty cool, but they deserved a little criticism for that.”
