Kylian Mbappe has now insisted that Lionel Messi is “the best player in the world”, after saying earlier this year that he often chose Cristiano Ronaldo over his Argentine team-mate.

The PSG forward scored twice in the 4-1 win over Club Brugge on Tuesday evening, as did Messi, who has been his team-mate for four months since his transfer free from Barcelona.

Things haven’t been smooth sailing for the duo alongside Neymar up front, but the trio are showing signs of form and Mbappe now appears to have made up his mind as to who will score highest in the Messi-Ronaldo debate.

“It’s easy to play with Lionel Messi,” Mbappe said after the Champions League victory.

“He is the best player in the world. He won the Ballon d’Or a few days ago. He scored two goals today, he is happy and I hope he will help us in the future.”

However, in an interview with the Spanish newspaper marca in February, Mbappe admitted he has rated Ronaldo slightly higher from time to time.

“From one year to the next my choice changes between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” said Mbappe.
