Kyle Sandilands slams other ‘fake’ radio shows that are rife with ‘fighting’ and ‘jealousy’: ‘There’s no fun there’

Kyle Sandilands has hit out at rival radio shows, calling them “fake” and colleagues who “can’t stand each other”.

The KIIS FM radio host, 51, took aim at other competitors across the country, saying many teams don’t get along.

Thursday morning Kyle and Jackie O ShowThe shock jock shared some inside knowledge from the world of radio as two kids currently doing internships sit in the studio for the week.

Upon learning that work experience students dream of working in radio, Kyle was quick to explain why The Kyle & Jackie O Show is different to other radio shows, particularly behind the scenes.

“Well, just so you know, there’s no fun on all the other shows,” he explained.

Kyle added that there is a lot of jealousy and fighting between other radio hosts, before reassuring his team about his off-radio friendship with co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

‘Some of the other shows, they actually sound like they like each other. I won’t point out which ones, but they aren’t really supported.

‘I could never do this job if I didn’t really like Jackie. Do I question what she says and thinks? Yes, often. But I love her and I respect what she says, even though sometimes I think she’s a crazy psychopath, she still respects it.

‘But on other shows they don’t even like each other. They are jealous. There are fights. It’s… it’s all fake.

While Kyle did not name any particular radio star, several radio disputes have been rumored between rival networks such as Nova FM,

Last year, Tim Blackwell appeared to confirm rumors that he and his former co-presenter Kate Ritchie had had a breakup.

The broadcaster made a sarcastic comment when asked about his departure from the show Drive Time on the Shock Jocks podcast.

When asked what prompted Kate’s exit, Tim responded: “That’s a question for her, I don’t know anything.”

He continued: “She’s a bit of a control freak, she knows what she wants, she’s very vocal, very powerful, she has her own ideas, that’s why we love her so much.”

Meanwhile, Kyle’s manager and creative director of his radio show, Bruno Bouchet, said in 2020 that the Australian industry was “full of presenters who hate working with each other”.

He alleged that one of Sydney’s most iconic duos, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross, didn’t even get along.

Merrick and Rosso began their careers at Triple J and became the so-called ‘kings of breakfast radio’ after moving to Nova 96.9 in 2001.

In 2009, they broke up, with Watts saying, “This has nothing to do with Rosso and I not liking each other.” There are no fights, there are no carry-ons, there is none of that.

But Bruno suggested otherwise, claiming they disagreed toward the end of their on-air partnership.

However, Tim doubled down and dismissed any rumors of a feud between the couple.

Speaking on the Mumbrella podcast last month, Tim described Merrick as a “brother” and said the former partners share a “bond”.

‘Merrick and I, the way I describe it, are like brothers, you know? No one else understands what happened at that moment,’ he said.

Fifi Box and Marty Sheargold also did not like working together as co-hosts of Triple M’s The Shebang from 2003 to 2008, Bouchet claimed.

“When they did a show together, they used to sit back to back so they didn’t have to look at each other,” he alleged.

In 2010, Marty left the network to join Nova, and in 2011 he was one-third of the show Meshel, Tim & Marty (which became Kat, Tim & Marty in 2014. He left the network in 2020.

In July of this year, he announced that he would be leaving Nova after 10 years with the network.

Meanwhile, Fifi currently presents Fifi, Fev and Byron on Melbourne’s Fox FM.

Bruno also claimed that there had been a dispute between former 2Day FM breakfast hosts Em Rusciano and Harley Breen in 2017.

“Apparently those two hated each other,” he said.

The duo worked together for about a year, but things reportedly became so tense between them that they didn’t speak to each other off-air for a period of a week.

When contacted by Daily Mail Australia at the time, Harley’s representative denied Bruno’s claims.

Former radio hosts Peter Moon and Wendy Harmer also hated each other despite a long-standing relationship, Bruno said.

The duo co-hosted the 2Day FM breakfast show for eight years, from 1995 to 2002.

Confirming the rumors were true, Harmer told Daily Mail Australia: ‘The dispute was not a secret; It was on the air every day!
