Kyle Rittenhouse Says He Supported Andrew Yang But Went To A Trump Rally Because He Supports Police

Kyle Rittenhouse liked the policies of Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, he has revealed — describing him as “a good guy” — but said he went to a Trump rally because he knew the former president supported the police.

Rittenhouse, 18, spoke to Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Sunday for an interview, the majority of which aired Monday’s primetime.

Rittenhouse was acquitted Friday by a Wisconsin court for the shooting and death of two protesters in August 2020, during Black Lives Matter riots in the city of Kenosha.

On Wednesday, the channel broadcast more footage of Carlson’s interview with the teenager, in which the two talked about politics.

He said he was “not a political person” but had followed Yang’s campaign with interest when he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in early 2020.

“Before all of this, I was a pretty big Andrew Yang supporter,” said Rittenhouse.

“I was part of the Yang gang. He’s a good guy.’

Rittenhouse, who insisted during his 19-day trial in Kenosha that he be in town that night to prevent the destruction of his father’s hometown, and acted in self-defense when he opened fire, said he paid little attention to the campaign. of 2020.

“I wasn’t into politics,” he told Carlson.

“I didn’t know much about Trump. I didn’t know much about Biden.

“I went to a Trump rally because Trump supports the police. That’s what I loved about Trump. I didn’t know much about politics. I was just a boy of 17.

“I liked Andrew Yang. I kind of liked his policy. Very smart.’

Yang was the first of 13 Democratic contenders to drop out of the primary, ending his long-running campaign in February 2020. He went on to run unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York, and after dropping out, announced in October of this year that he had left the Democratic party and was now independent.

Rittenhouse met Trump on Tuesday at his Mar-a-Lago estate, the former president revealed.

Trump told Sean Hannity the teen was “a fan” of his.

“Kyle called. He wanted to know if he could come over because he’s a fan,” Trump said Tuesday night on the Fox News Channel.

‘Really a nice man. He came by with his mother.’

Trump said Rittenhouse should never have gone to trial and insisted he acted in self-defense.

“That was prosecutorial misconduct,” Trump said.

“He would have been dead.

“He’s a very good young fellow. 18 years old. I left Mar-a-Lago a while ago.

“That was the prosecution’s misconduct, and it should never have happened.”

Rittenhouse said in the interview, taped two days before his meeting with Trump, that he did not want to be sucked into politics.

“I’ve been trying to stay out of politics lately,” he told Carlson.

“Whatever direction I go, there will be people who won’t support me anyway.

“I think it’s just in my best interest to avoid politics. I’m not a political person.’

The teen was also asked by Carlson about his reaction to the three men he shot — Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum, whom he killed, and Gaige Grosskreutz, whom he wounded — who were hailed as heroes.

Grosskreutz, Carlson noted, was armed and “stabbed a loaded gun in your face.”

Rittenhouse said: ‘I told him I was going to the police and he pointed a gun at my head.

“As far as I remember, time slowed down, I remember staring down the barrel of a gun and thinking I was about to die.

“He hasn’t been charged with any crime.”

Rittenhouse said a pending DUI charge against Grosskreutz had been dropped before the trial, preventing his lawyers from bringing it up.

“In my opinion there are no winners in this case, no heroes in this case,” said Rittenhouse.

‘I defended myself. I was attacked.

“I actually find it quite sickening how Mr. Huber and Mr. Grosskreutz are described as heroes when the video shows them trying to kill me in the middle of the street.

“The message I get out of it is they say you can go out and attack anyone and you get the support of the media and the politicians to do what you want and kill innocent people.”
